Revamped Roads: NIBM Undri Road Reconstruction Near Palace Orchards Gains Momentum

The much-anticipated road reconstruction near Palace Orchards society on NIBM Undri Road has resumed after a four-month hiatus, bringing relief to the residents and commuters of the area. The project, undertaken by L&T, has recently gained momentum with a dedicated effort to expedite the process.

Parveen Tambe, Founder Member of the NIBM Undri Road Residents’ Forum, expressed optimism about the ongoing progress. “The L&T work has been in full swing for the last 10 days, extending beyond Princetown Royal. The current focus is on the side of Palace Orchard, with restructuring and tarring work planned at the Y junction. Once the L&T work is completed, the roads leading towards Undri and Mohammadwadi will be leveled and matched with the adjacent road near Princetown Royal, followed by the commencement of tarring.”

Tambe highlighted the proactive involvement of the residents in expediting the project. “The work has been accelerated due to our persistent follow-up. A meeting with PMC officials was held 10 days ago, resulting in the order of additional machines for faster L&T work completion. Another meeting is scheduled to discuss further progress and ensure timely completion,” Tambe added.

The current phase involves leveling the road near the Y junction, with specific instructions given to expedite the process. Residents are hopeful that the comprehensive redevelopment will not only enhance the condition of Y junction but will also address the longstanding issues with roads connecting Bakers Point to Kad Nagar, Punyadham Ashram, and others.

Gregory Pillai, a resident of Runwal Daffodils on NIBM Road, shared insights into the timeline provided by PMC. “The Y junction work has initiated, and PMC estimates it will take approximately 15 to 20 days for completion. However, our concerns extend beyond this junction. The residents have consistently advocated for the reconstruction of the road from Bakers Point to Kad Nagar, along with the refurbishment of Punyadham Ashram’s access road, considering their deteriorated condition.”

In October 2023, PMC had assured residents that the NIBM Undri Road near Palace Orchards would witness completion within the following three months. Despite the initial delay, the recent resurgence in construction activities has instilled hope among the residents for a more accessible and well-maintained road network in the near future.
