Residents of Shewalewadi Urge Pune Police Commissioner to Curb Pollution from Joyville Project

In a plea for immediate action, numerous residents of Shewalewadi have approached Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, urging him to take strict measures against the construction site of the Joyville project by Shapoorji Pallonji. The ongoing construction, spanning hundreds of acres for the past two to three years, has raised significant concerns among locals due to excessive air and sound pollution.

According to Rahul Shewale, General Secretary of the BJP Pune district, the construction site operates day and night, disrupting the peace of the area. The loud noises generated by the construction activities are particularly troubling for students in the midst of their final exams.

Following a positive response from Commissioner Kumar, instructions were issued to concerned police officers to promptly address the residents’ complaints. The letter outlining the grievances was collectively submitted by Bharatiya Janata Party General Secretary Rahul Shewale, former Sarpanch of Shewalewadi village Mangal Kodre, Amruta Khedekar, Rajendra Bhintade, Balkrishna Shewale, Ajit Shewale, Alankar Khedekar, and students during their meeting with the Police Commissioner.

The situation at the construction site has exacerbated, with workers engaging in loud conversations and consuming alcohol throughout the night. Vehicles carrying goods also contribute to the disturbance, honking their horns during the late hours. The cumulative effect has resulted in a significant increase in air and noise pollution, causing distress to the residents.

Rahul Shewale emphasized, “Air and noise pollution are severely impacting the health of citizens, and the situation is critical. Despite repeated complaints to the company, the issues persist, and the company has even resorted to harassing local citizens. Moreover, frequent altercations and the consumption of alcohol and drugs by laborers in the open have led to unfortunate incidents, with a youth losing his life last month due to recurring conflicts.”

The residents now hope for stringent action against the builder to alleviate their predicament and restore peace to the locality.
