Randeep Hooda Flags Off ‘Swatantraveer Savarkar Mukti Shatabdi Yatra’ from Yerawada Central Jail

Actor Randeep Hooda marked a historic moment as he flagged off the ‘Swatantraveer Savarkar Mukti Shatabdi Yatra’ from Yerwada Central Jail in Pune on Saturday. The yatra, commemorating the 100th anniversary of freedom fighter Vinayak Damodar Savarkar’s release from prison on January 6, 1924, holds significance as Hooda prepares to portray Savarkar in the film ‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar.’

Speaking to a news agency, Hooda emphasized the importance of the day, stating, “Today is a very historic day, as today it has been 100 years since Savarkar Ji was released from jail.” He elaborated on Savarkar’s journey after leaving prison, highlighting his time in Ratnagiri under house arrest and district arrest.

Addressing Savarkar’s contribution to the country, Hooda expressed his hope that the film would shed light on the lesser-known aspects of the great freedom fighter’s life. He urged people to watch the movie and read about Savarkar in detail before forming opinions based on misconceptions.

Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, born on May 28, 1883, in Bhagur near Nashik, Maharashtra, was a multifaceted personality—an activist, writer, and freedom fighter. His early involvement in the freedom movement began during his high school days and continued at Fergusson College in Pune.

Savarkar’s influence extended beyond India as he engaged with organizations like India House and the Free India Society during his legal studies in the UK. His book ‘The Indian War of Independence,’ addressing the 1857 ‘Sepoy Mutiny,’ was banned by British authorities.

Director Sandeep Singh, emphasizing the need to dispel historical misunderstandings, revealed that the film ‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar’ would unveil the truth about Savarkar and his contributions. Produced by Anand Pandit Motion Pictures, Randeep Hooda Films, Legend Studios, and Avak Films, the film is directed and co-written by Randeep Hooda in collaboration with Utkarsh Naithani.
