Heavy rainfalls often reveal the chinks in a city’s armor, and Pune is no exception. With the onset of the monsoon season, the inadequacies in the city’s infrastructure have once again been laid bare, leading to widespread flooding and traffic congestion. In response to this perennial problem, the Pune Police’s Traffic branch has compiled a comprehensive list of over 100 locations notorious for waterlogging, exacerbating the already chaotic traffic situation.
DCP (Traffic) Rohidas Pawar emphasized the importance of initiating corrective measures well in advance of the monsoon season. Clogged stormwater and drainage pipes are primary culprits behind the flooding, severely hampering commuters’ movement, especially those on two-wheelers.
The list, meticulously prepared by the Traffic branch, has been submitted to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), urging immediate action to address the persistent issues causing heavy congestion during the rainy season. Residents and commuters have long been vocal about the deteriorating state of roads and drainage systems, pleading with the authorities to take proactive steps to mitigate waterlogging and alleviate traffic woes.
The urgency of the situation cannot be overstated. As Pune grapples with the challenges posed by monsoon rains, swift and decisive action is imperative to prevent further disruption to daily life.
