Railways Organize Mock Drill on Miraj-Kolhapur Section in Pune Division

Pune, July 10, 2023: The Central Railway conducted a mock drill on the Miraj-Kolhapur section in the Pune division on Monday to test the preparedness for conducting relief and rescue operations in case of an emergency.

During the mock drill, an emergency call regarding a passenger train accident between Hatkanangle and Jaisingpur railway stations was made to the control room. Upon receiving the SOS call, information about the incident was immediately shared with all the concerned departments, and an accident relief train was dispatched from Miraj railway station to the accident site.

Senior officials, including the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), quickly reached the accident site with medical teams, the Railway Protection Force (RPF), and rescue equipment. The local bodies of the state government, including hospitals and the district administration, were also informed about the incident and they promptly arrived at the site to provide assistance. It was only after the officials reached the site that they were informed that it was a mock drill, which relieved them of any actual emergency response responsibilities.

A presentation was conducted to demonstrate the rescue operation, including the evacuation of stranded passengers using various equipment. The senior officials appreciated the preparedness displayed during the mock drill. Such drills are organized regularly by the railways in coordination with the safety department and other concerned departments to assess the preparedness of the units in case of an actual emergency.
