PUNE: The Central Railway has informed through a press release that the railway gate located at Thoptewadi (Purandar taluka) between Walhe and Nira on the Pune-Miraj railway route, will be shut for 36 hours on Saturday and Sunday.

The railway administration has informed that the railway gate number 27 km 79/01 on the Pune-Miraj railway route will remain shut from Saturday (16/9) at 7 am to Sunday (17/9) till 7 pm for 36 hours for traffic. The railway administration has appealed to people travelling on this route to travel by another route.

The railway’s gate number 27 is located at Thoptewadi on Pune-Pandharpur highway in Purandar taluka. The railway administration has informed that the railway gate will be closed for repairs of the track and inspection.

The railway administration has sent letters to the gram panchayats of Walhe and Nira. However, since the railway gate on the palkhi route is being closed during Ganeshotsav, passengers will have to travel from Jejuri to Morgaon and again Nira and continue their forward journey. The passengers will have to take a 40 km long detour.

The passengers are upset that the gate is being kept closed on the weekend during Ganeshotsav and they will have to travel by the longer Nira-Morgaon-Jejuri route.
