Pune Rains

Pune: For the past five days, Pune has been experiencing heavy rainfall, and the Meteorological Department has issued warnings of further moderate to heavy showers. In particular, Mulshi and Maval areas have witnessed intensified rain. In response to this situation, Commissioner Shekhar Singh has appealed to all citizens to remain vigilant. Emergency systems are in place, and the firefighting team stands ready for rescue operations.

With three rivers flowing through Pimpri-Chinchwad city area, Commissioner Shekhar Singh has directed the municipal administration to ensure preparedness in order to prevent loss of life and property in the event of a significant rise in water levels due to the direct flow of rainwater into the riverbeds. A comprehensive review meeting has been conducted to address these concerns.

Commissioner Singh emphasized the need for prompt action in preventing flooding on roads and immediate repairs of potholes. Beat inspectors, engineers, and regional officers have been instructed to patrol and inspect their respective wards diligently. Any issues discovered during inspections should be addressed without delay, and officials have been directed to visit the affected areas for firsthand assessments.

A dedicated 24-hour flood control room is operational at all fire stations for citizens’ convenience. Additionally, the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) main administrative building houses a central flood control room that remains active round the clock. Commissioner of Disaster Management Department, Chandrakant Indalkar, urges citizens to promptly contact the control room in case of any emergencies.

As the rain continues, it is crucial for residents of Pune to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and that of others.
