Pune’s Unusual Cool Spell: Below-Normal Night Temperatures

Pune is embracing an unexpected shift in its weather as cooler nights with temperatures hovering around 14 to 15 degrees Celsius, roughly two degrees below the usual range, are witnessed until November 4, as per India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials.

On Sunday, Pashan secured the distinction of being the city’s coolest spot, recording a nighttime temperature of 13 degrees Celsius. NDA closely followed with 13.8 degrees Celsius, while Shivajinagar marked 14.5 degrees Celsius, according to meteorological reports.

Shivajinagar’s minimum temperature was notably 1.3 degrees Celsius below the usual range, in stark contrast to Lohegaon, where the temperature was recorded at 16.9 degrees Celsius, just 0.1 degrees below normal. The city is currently experiencing relatively high humidity levels, which contribute to warmer daytime conditions for its residents.

The recent occurrence of cooler nights has ushered in a different atmosphere for October, hinting at winter-like conditions arriving earlier than expected. Despite minor fluctuations in daytime and nighttime temperatures, meteorological experts predict that Pune’s denizens can look forward to enjoying the city’s signature cool weather in the coming days.

Following the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon, Pune saw a rise in both daytime and nighttime temperatures. A senior meteorological official highlighted the absence of significant weather systems over the state at present. Cold northerly winds are presently sweeping across the region, with forecasts indicating more such winds in the days to come, leading to a further drop in nighttime temperatures across all meteorological divisions.

On Sunday, all divisions in the state experienced a decline in nighttime temperatures, with Jalgaon registering the lowest at 11.6 degrees Celsius, marking a deviation of 4.8 degrees below the normal range. The variations in nighttime temperatures spanned from 0.1 to 4.8 degrees Celsius across the state.

Simultaneously, officials from the state agriculture department pointed out that the current weather conditions are favorable for rabi crops and vegetables. With no drastic reduction in nighttime temperatures, the environment is conducive for vegetable cultivation, promising a diverse array of vegetables in the market in the coming weeks. This weather is also deemed beneficial for rabi sowing, according to agricultural authorities.
