Pune’s Traffic Woes Eased: Katraj-Kondhwa Road Widening Accelerated with New Alternative Route

Katraj, Pune – In a noteworthy development to combat traffic congestion, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has accelerated the widening of the Katraj-Kondhwa road. Alongside this, a new 12-meter alternative road connecting Khadi Machine Chowk to Katraj is set to open in the coming days, pending the completion of street lights and signal systems at key intersections.

The widening project, initiated in 2018, faced delays primarily due to challenges in land acquisition. Over the past year, PMC has actively engaged with landowners, successfully acquiring the necessary land to expedite the road development. The newly secured land between Kanha Hotel Chowk and Khadi Machine Chowk is dedicated to the creation of a proposed 50-meter wide road.

To address immediate congestion concerns, a 12-meter alternative road has been swiftly constructed, providing relief to commuters on the existing Katraj-Kondhwa road. The new route aims to enhance connectivity and ease traffic flow in the busy region.

To ensure a seamless commuting experience, signal systems will be installed at key intersections along the new route, including Khadi Machine Chowk and Tilekar Nagar Chowk. These strategically placed signals will regulate traffic, particularly during peak hours, contributing to smoother navigation for residents.

Vikas Dhakne, PMC’s Additional Commissioner, affirmed that both the existing road from Kanha Veg to Khadi Machine Chowk and the newly constructed road from Khadi Machine to Katraj will soon be open for traffic. This strategic move is expected to significantly reduce congestion and enhance connectivity between these vital points in Pune.
