Pune’s Traffic Revolution: Commissioner Duo Pledges Unified Action for Change

Pune, 25th February 2024: Pune’s newly appointed City Police Commissioner, Amitesh Kumar, and Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Commissioner, Vikram Kumar, are gearing up for a joint effort to actively address and alleviate traffic congestion in the city. This collaborative initiative involves taking to the streets for a firsthand assessment, inspecting 15 model roads under PMC development, and examining 41 intersections and 30 accident-prone areas.

A pivotal meeting between PMC and police officials unfolded at the police commissioner’s office, where the issue of traffic congestion took center stage. Acknowledging the imperative to tackle this challenge collectively, both administrations pledged to work in unison. The meeting, attended by officials from the PMC road department and the traffic police branch, focused on presenting current traffic issues, discussing necessary measures, and underscoring the pivotal role of the police in resolving the problem.

In response to the presentation, the Commissioner of Police actively engaged with the discussion and directed police officers to promptly implement the suggested measures. A subsequent report on the implementation of these measures is expected for review in the next meeting. Additionally, it was decided that both the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of Traffic Police would jointly inspect 41 intersections and 30 accident-prone areas in the city.

Vikas Dhakne, Additional Commissioner of PMC, provided insights into the meeting, stating, “This meeting was called by the Police Commissioner to discuss the traffic problem in the city. In this, PMC gave information about ideal roads, along with missing links, bottlenecks in the city, places of accidents, and measures being taken by PMC. After that, the Police Commissioner and the PMC Commissioner will soon conduct a joint inspection in the city.” The collaborative effort aims to comprehensively address traffic issues in Pune.
