Pune’s Sweltering Heatwave: Shivajinagar Records Season’s Highest Temperature

Pune experienced its hottest day of the summer season on Monday, with scorching temperatures hitting a high of 36.9°C in Shivajinagar, according to data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The mercury soared across various parts of the city, with Pashan reaching 36.4°C, Lohegaon at 37.2°C, Chinchwad at 38.3°C, Lavale at 39°C, and Magarpatta at 37.4°C.

The relentless rise in temperatures is approaching the 40°C mark, prompting doctors to issue advisories urging residents to take precautions. They emphasize the importance of staying well-hydrated and minimizing outdoor activities, especially during the intense midday sun.

Anupam Kashyapi, the head of the weather forecasting division at IMD Pune, noted that the current day temperatures are more than 2° higher than the March normal day temperature in Pune. He attributed this surge to the prevalence of clear to mainly clear skies in the region, allowing direct solar insolation to reach the surface.

As the heatwave grips Pune and its surrounding areas, residents are urged to stay vigilant and take necessary measures to beat the heat. With temperatures expected to continue rising, staying hydrated and avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun are essential for maintaining health and well-being.
