Pune’s Road Revival: PMC Repairs 7,000+ Potholes Ahead of Ganesh Festival

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is making significant strides in addressing the ongoing pothole issue on the city’s roads. Recent efforts have seen the filling of over 7,000 potholes and the repair of 355 chambers, marking a positive step towards improving road conditions. Despite challenges such as road excavation for Ganesh festival pandals, the civic body is committed to ensuring smoother and safer roadways for residents.

Resurfacing and Repair Initiatives

The PMC’s road department has initiated resurfacing and concrete work to enhance road quality. However, some delays in this work have led to the resurgence of potholes, especially in anticipation of the upcoming Ganesh festival. Road excavation activities related to setting up pandals by public Ganesh Mandal organizations have contributed significantly to this issue.

Pothole Filling Progress

In response to these road woes, the PMC had previously assured residents that potholes would be filled before the Ganesh festival. As of now, the municipal administration has fulfilled its promise by filling 7,739 potholes and repairing 355 chambers. Remarkably, a staggering 27,000 metric tons of stone aggregate mixed with tar have been used for pothole filling, demonstrating the city officials’ commitment to expediting the repair work.

Impact of Continuous Road Excavations

The ongoing road excavation activities have taken a toll on the condition of major roads in Pune. Potholes have emerged on many prominent routes, prompting criticism from citizens. In response, the municipal administration conducted a systematic road inspection to identify roads in urgent need of repair. The assessment included evaluating the extent of damage and prioritizing roads for resurfacing.

Extensive Repairs in Progress

As a result of the assessment, a comprehensive plan was put in motion to address road issues across the city. Approximately 100 kilometers of roads are now slated for extensive repairs, encompassing the resurfacing of 8.30 kilometers of concrete roads and work on 91 kilometers of asphalt roads. These initiatives underscore the PMC’s dedication to improving road conditions and ensuring a smoother ride for Pune’s residents.
