Pune’s PMC Steps Up for Stray Animals with Dedicated Emergency Helpline

Pune Municipal Corporation

Pune – In a commendable move, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced its plans to launch an emergency helpline dedicated to assisting stray animals within the city. This decision comes in response to the rising number of complaints received by the civic body concerning the medical treatment of injured animals.

Officials reveal that the municipal corporation currently handles an average of 15 to 20 complaints daily, all related to injured and ailing animals. Given that PMC lacks a dedicated animal hospital, these complaints are typically referred to private hospitals operated by Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs).

To bring this vital initiative to life, PMC will collaborate with Canine Control and Care, Blue Cross Society, and Universal Animal Welfare Society. These partnering NGOs will receive compensation for their services. The launch of this initiative is pending approval from the Municipal Commissioner, as stated by officials.

On a daily basis, the civic body receives numerous complaints concerning the welfare of ailing and injured stray animals, including cats and dogs. The introduction of the emergency helpline aims to provide swift assistance and medical attention to these vulnerable animals.
