Pune’s Muslim Community Joins Maratha Reservation Demand with Symbolic Fast

In a powerful display of solidarity with the ongoing demand for reservation rights for the Maratha community in Pune, Manoj Jarange-Patil’s hunger strike, which has continued for six days, has garnered the support of various communities. The call for Maratha community reservation has resonated beyond Pune, reaching regions like Beed, Hingoli, and Parbhani in the Marathwada area of Maharashtra. The absence of a decisive response from the state government has motivated citizens from diverse backgrounds to rally behind the cause, including members of Pune’s Muslim community.

In a meaningful gesture of support, the Pune Muslim community turned out in significant numbers to stand with the Maratha reservation movement at Narveer Tanaji Malusare Chowk in Kondhwa. The gathering reverberated with spirited slogans, as voices united in chanting, “One Marath, lakh Marathas, reservation is our right.”

Haji Gafoor Pathan, an ex-corporator, underscored the urgency of the situation, emphasizing that Manoj Jarange-Patil’s hunger strike has continued for six days without any definitive action from the state government. In response, members of the Muslim community in Pune have initiated a symbolic fast to lend their support to the Maratha community’s reservation demand. Gafoor Pathan cautioned that without a swift decision, the movement may escalate further.

Haji Gafoor Pathan, the founder of the Muslim Foundation, spearheaded this symbolic fast, which received widespread support from members of Pune’s Muslim community.
