In a crucial move to expedite the ongoing Metro construction in Pune, Deputy Chief Minister (DCM) Ajit Pawar emphasized the importance of meeting deadlines and minimizing hardships for citizens. During a review meeting held in Mumbai on Thursday, Pawar directed authorities to take proactive measures to address concerns raised by civic activists and residents, particularly regarding traffic congestion near planned Metro stations and along the Metro routes.
Pawar stressed the need for a comprehensive plan to enhance feeder services, manage vehicular movement, and address the challenges posed by hawkers in the vicinity of Metro stations. He urged authorities to ensure that commuters receive adequate services and facilities during the construction phase.
One notable recommendation from Pawar was the construction of a foot overbridge along the Hinjawadi Shivajinagar Metro route, specifically considering security measures near Raj Bhavan. This measure aims to alleviate congestion and enhance the overall safety and convenience for commuters.
Highlighting the collaborative effort required, Pawar called for local bodies to coordinate and resolve traffic-related issues along the Metro routes. The government is keen on streamlining the construction process and ensuring that citizens experience minimal disruptions during the development of the three Metro routes in the city.
Currently, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is overseeing the Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar elevated Metro Line, while Maha Metro is responsible for the Vanaz to Ramwadi and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to Swargate routes.
PMC officials revealed that Maha Metro has been instructed to make suitable arrangements for people to navigate the Ramwadi and other routes effectively. Collaboration with PMC and traffic police has been ongoing to address concerns and streamline the construction process, ensuring a smoother experience for both commuters and residents.
