The peaceful neighborhood of Kalyaninagar in Pune was recently rattled by an unsettling incident that has left two individuals without their mobile phones. An unidentified individual, posing as a ‘Secret Police Officer,’ orchestrated a robbery that unfolded on a Sunday evening around 9 pm. The victims have since reported the incident to the Pune City Police, who have swiftly taken action.
The Deceptive Encounter
According to the official complaint filed at the Yerawada Police Station, the victims found themselves at the mercy of an imposter who cunningly portrayed himself as a ‘Secret Police Officer.’ The impersonator alleged that the victims had taken unauthorized photographs of two men using their mobile phones and insisted on inspecting the devices. He went a step further, threatening legal consequences for photographing and recording individuals without consent.
Fearful of impending repercussions, the victims reluctantly surrendered their mobile phones for inspection. However, their hesitation proved costly, as the fraudulent ‘Secret Police Officer’ made a swift escape from the scene, clutching mobile phones collectively valued at Rs 17,000. The victims were left stunned and helpless, with little time to react to the audacious act.
The Police Response
Local authorities have swiftly responded to the victims’ distressing encounter, initiating a formal investigation into the incident. Both victims come from diverse backgrounds – one hailing from Nepal, working as a doctor in the city, and the other serving as an IT engineer. They share accommodation as paying guests in the tranquil Kalyaninagar area, which has been a peaceful haven until this unexpected occurrence.
