Pune’s Hinjawadi Faces Enforcement Action: Unlicensed Bars and Restaurants Raided

In a recent crackdown, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has taken decisive action against unauthorized bars, restaurants, and rooftop hotels in Hinjawadi. This operation, conducted on Thursday morning, targeted 10 establishments that were found to be operating without proper authorization. The anti-encroachment team of the PMRDA spearheaded this effort, demolishing approximately 97,815 square feet of unauthorized construction during the raid.

The need for such action arose due to the lack of response from the district collector’s office, prompting the PMRDA to take matters into its own hands. Despite previous challenges in conducting enforcement activities, including the absence of a full-time officer in the anti-encroachment department, the recent appointment of an officer paved the way for this crackdown. With the conclusion of the election process, the operation was initiated promptly on Thursday morning.

The raid targeted establishments that had encroached upon public spaces, with a focus on areas like Laxmi Chowk in Hinjawadi. The unauthorized bars, rooftop hotels, and restaurants were identified and subsequently evicted from the premises. The demolition operation, which utilized heavy machinery such as Poclain and JCBs, lasted throughout the day, resulting in the removal of illegal structures.

Moving forward, similar enforcement actions are expected to be carried out in other areas as well. Officials from the PMRDA’s Anti-Unauthorized Construction Department, present during the operation, have emphasized the importance of complying with regulations and refraining from unauthorized construction activities.
