PMC to Deploy Ex-Soldiers for Enhanced Security of Civic Properties in Pune
Published: September 4, 2023
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has taken a proactive step to bolster the security of sensitive civic properties within the city by enlisting the services of retired soldiers. A total of 100 former soldiers will be engaged to ensure the safety and protection of these crucial assets. PMC officials have identified specific properties that warrant heightened security measures beyond the current provisions.
In collaboration with government agencies and private companies specializing in the employment of retired soldiers or paramilitary forces, the civic body will contract these ex-servicemen. Some of the selected soldiers will also be equipped with licensed firearms to bolster security measures at the identified sensitive civic properties. These locations include hospitals, cultural centers, water purification plants, gardens, crematoriums, and more.
This initiative is not entirely new for the PMC, as they had previously undertaken a similar recruitment drive for retired soldiers, which received a favorable response. The success of this approach prompted its popularity, leading other civic bodies, such as Nashik Municipal Corporation, to follow suit.
