Pune’s 29th Killa Making Competition & Exhibition: Celebrating Diwali with Forts

Every year, Pune Municipal Corporation’s Garden Department and Tree Authority join hands to organize the Killa (Castle) Making Competition and Exhibition to celebrate Diwali. Since 1992, this unique event has been an integral part of Diwali celebrations in Pune, offering children a chance to explore history, geography, and their creative talents. As urbanization encroaches on open spaces, this competition provides a platform for youngsters to connect with the rich history of forts and fortresses.

This year, the 29th Killa Making Competition and Exhibition is set to kick off from November 9, 2023, and run until November 19, 2023, at Sambhajiraje Udyan, Jungli Maharaj Road, Shivajinagar, Pune. With numerous contestants participating, experts in history and geography will assess the intricate fort creations.

The competition features awards for the winners of each division, with Rs 5,001 for the first place, Rs 3,001 for the second place, and Rs 2,001 for the third place. The overall winner will receive a special prize of Rs 7,001.

The event inauguration will take place on November 9, 2023, at 4:00 PM, followed by a prize distribution ceremony at 4:30 PM, honoring the successful participants. Pune Municipal Commissioner and Administrator, along with the Chairman of Tree Authority, will inaugurate the competition. Key officials from the Pune Municipal Corporation will also be present at the ceremony.

Moreover, the event will mark the inauguration of the website of Rajiv Gandhi Zoo and Wildlife Research Center, along with the launch of the online ticket booking computer system.

The exhibition promises to captivate visitors with exact replicas of famous forts like Suvarnadurg, Vijaydurg, Rajgad, Sinhagad, Shaniwarwada, Pratapgad, Shivneri, Lohgad, Torna, Anturgad, Sajjangad, Sindhudurg, Korigad, Paranda, Malhargad, Janjira, Purandar, and more.

Citizens attending the exhibition will gain insights into various forts in Maharashtra, including historical details, fort maps, slogans inspired by the forts, and information about the surrounding environment. The exhibition opens on November 9, 2023, at 4:00 PM, and admission is free for the public until November 19, 2023.
