In a celebration of Pune’s rich heritage, the iconic landmarks of Poona Guest House and Shinde Chhatri were recently bestowed with special postal covers during a grand ceremony held at the Balgandharva Art Gallery. The prestigious event, organized by the Government of India’s Department of Post, saw the unveiling of two exquisite Special Covers featuring ‘Shinde Chhatri, Pune’ and ‘Poona Guest House.’
The valedictory ceremony of PUNEPEX 2023, where the covers were unveiled, was graced by distinguished personalities. Pune Municipal Corporation’s Additional Commissioner Vikas Dhakane, Pune’s Regional Passport Officer Arjun Deore, Director of Postal Services Pune Region Simran Kaur, Shinde Chhatri Manager Yashwant Bhosale, Poona Guest House Director Kishore Sarpotdar, and other dignitaries added significance to the occasion.
Maharashtra Postal Circle, sharing the highlights on social media, expressed their delight at the success of the event, capturing moments of cultural richness and historical significance. The Special Covers, adorned with images of Pune’s architectural gems, serve as tokens of the city’s heritage, symbolizing the seamless blend of tradition and modernity.

Originally catering to the needs of film industry staff, it expanded to provide lodging for film personalities. Renowned for its Maharashtrian cuisine, the guest house offers unique dishes like Bajirao Chiwda and Mastani Misal.
Know more about Shinde Chhatri: Constructed in the 18th century, Shinde Chhatri serves as the final resting place of Maratha leader Mahadji Shinde. Managed by the Scindia Devasthan Charitable Trust, this historic site boasts intricate wall carvings and a splendid iron gate, reflecting a blend of Rajasthani and Anglo architectural styles. Recent renovations aimed at preserving its structural integrity have addressed issues such as roof deterioration and moss accumulation.
