Pune Zone: Over 12,000 Power Connections Cleared in 10 Days

In an effort to provide qualitative customer-oriented services to consumers, Devendra Fadnavis, the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Minister of Energy, recently issued instructions to expedite the process of clearing pending applications for power connections. As a result, the Pune zone of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) successfully cleared 12,296 new connections in just ten days from June 20 to June 30. This achievement is part of a state-wide drive that saw a total of 1.04 lakh new connections being sanctioned.

The Pune zone secured the second position in clearing pending applications for domestic consumers, with a total of 13,311 new connections. Kalyan topped the list in this regard. The Pune zone consists of Pune city, Pimpri Chinchwad, and seven tehsils including Mulshi, Maval, Haveli, Velhe, Ambegaon, Junnar, and Khed. Rajendra Pawar, Chief Engineer of MSEDCL (Pune zone), stated that this focused effort was a part of a statewide drive to expedite the process of providing domestic connections in areas that were lagging behind.

“On a monthly basis, approximately 10,000 to 15,000 new electricity connections are sanctioned in the Pune zone. However, in just ten days, we completed the process of providing 12,296 new connections,” Pawar mentioned. The Baramati zone secured the third position, processing 8,915 applications for electricity connections.

It is important to note that these efforts were prompted by the instructions given by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who stressed the importance of delivering qualitative customer-oriented services. Consequently, Lokesh Chandra, the Chairman and Managing Director of MSEDCL, directed officials to clear the pending applications promptly.

Pawar highlighted that the work was undertaken with utmost urgency, resulting in a record-breaking 1.04 lakh electricity connections being provided across the state within a span of ten days. A meeting was held on June 20, wherein the Chief Engineers of various zones in the state reviewed the pending applications. At that time, there were 1.17 lakh pending applications, according to Sanjay Taksande, the Director of MSEDCL.
