Pune: Youth Suffers Neck Injury In Accidental Pistol Firing In Khadakwasla Area

In a tragic incident that unfolded in the Khadakwasla area, a young man sustained a severe neck injury when a bullet accidentally discharged from an illegally purchased pistol. Uttamnagar police swiftly responded to the incident, arresting an individual for illegal possession of the firearm. The incident transpired in Sangrun village, situated near the Khadakwasla dam backwater.

The victim, identified as 22-year-old Abhay Chhagan Waikar, endured grave injuries in the unfortunate mishap. Avishkar alias Monya Tukaram Dhanwade, a 19-year-old resident of Sangrun village, has been implicated in the case and is currently in police custody. The incident was reported to the Uttamnagar police station by Police Constable Anand Gholap.

Abhay Waikar and Avishkar Dhanwade were friends and residents of Sangrun village in the Khadakwasla area. It was during a fateful encounter that Waikar unveiled an illegal, country-made pistol, intending to show it to Dhanwade. In an unforeseen turn of events, while handling the firearm, Dhanwade inadvertently triggered the weapon, resulting in a bullet striking Waikar’s neck. The severity of the injuries prompted immediate admission to a private hospital located in the Erandwane area. Assistant Police Inspector Pawar has taken charge of the ongoing investigation.

As the investigation unfolds, it has been revealed that Abhay Waikar had procured the country-made pistol from Bihar. Presently, he is receiving medical treatment within the intensive care unit of the private hospital. Authorities are diligently probing into the circumstances that led to Waikar carrying the illegal firearm, including tracing its source of origin.

Senior Police Inspector Kiran Balwadkar of Uttamnagar Police Station has officially confirmed that the incident was a result of an accidental discharge while handling the pistol.
