Pune: Youth Rescued by Police After Being Abducted by Friends for Extortion

Pune, 8th July 2023: The Anti-Extortion Cell of Pune City Police successfully rescued a young man who had been abducted by his friends with the intention of extorting money from his family. The victim was abducted from Panvel and was held captive in various lodges in Pune from June 29 to July 6.

The abductors, who were known to the victim, contacted his father and demanded a ransom of Rs 2.5 lakh for his release. Prompt action by the city police, based on vital information, led to the raid of a lodge where the victim was being held. Two individuals identified as Abhijeet Thorat (20) and Nikhil Ramesh Kamble (31) were arrested during the operation. Additionally, a minor boy has been taken into custody in connection with the case.

According to the police, the accused had paid a significant amount, ranging from Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 3 lakh, to an individual known to the victim in exchange for a job opportunity. However, they later discovered that they had been deceived, as neither the promised job materialized nor was their money returned. Frustrated by their failed attempts to seek a refund or secure employment, the accused resorted to kidnapping the victim from Panvel and demanded that he repay their money on behalf of the person who had received it. The victim was subjected to brutal assault and forcibly confined within the lodge by the abductors.

A case has been registered at Sahkarnagar Police Station under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 364 (a), 386, 367, 323, and 34. The investigation into the matter is ongoing as the police work to gather further evidence and uncover additional details related to the incident.
