Pune, Aug 28 (UNI) Observing that ‘yoga sadhana’ has the ability to raise the quality of life of a person and increase immunity, Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais said on Monday that yoga is also useful in achieving the goal of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ by establishing international cooperation and peace in a broad sense.
Speaking at the ‘Swami Kuvalyananda Yoga Award – 2023’ distribution ceremony organised by Kaivalyadham Yoga Sanstha in Lonavla, he further said, “Yoga is not only an exercise for a healthy body but it is a process involving body, mind and spirit. It is a healthy lifestyle and the ultimate goal of yoga is to develop inner peace, harmony and self-control.”
“Hence, when the prevalence of various diseases is increasing and the young generation is turning towards addiction, the spread of yoga becomes more important,” he stressed and the self-restraint and tolerance developed through practice of yoga is helpful in building a peaceful society.
Yoga can be a catalyst for bringing prosperity through employment to lakhs of youth in the country, he noted and called for celebrating ‘Yoga Week along with the ‘International Yoga Day’.
Stating that the Kaivalyadham Institute has the potential to become the ‘Oxford’ of Yoga, the Governor said that this institute should prepare the best yoga teachers for the world and start its centres all over the world.
Former director general of CBI Dr D R Karthikeyan, chief executive officer of Kaivalyadham Subodh Tiwari, co-manager Dr R S Bhogal, Swami Ram Sadhak Village Swami Ritvan Bharti of Hrishikesh, Ravi Dixit and others were present on this occasion.
Earlier, the Governor honoured Dr D R Karthikeyan and Swami Ritvan Bharti with the Kuvalayananda Award.
