Pune Witnesses Frigid Conditions as Mercury Dips Below 10 Degrees Celsius

Pune is currently in the grip of a cold wave, with temperatures plummeting below 10 degrees Celsius in certain areas over the last two to three days. The absence of a significant weather system over Maharashtra has led to clear skies, allowing northern cooler winds to penetrate the state, causing a noticeable drop in minimum temperatures. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts further reduction in Pune’s minimum temperature in the coming 24 hours.

Temperature Variations Across Pune: Some areas, including Shirur and NDA, recorded minimum temperatures as low as 8.2 and 9.3 degrees Celsius, respectively. Even in Shivajinagar, the mercury dropped to 11.2 degrees Celsius. The overall temperature in Pune has witnessed a decrease of 3 degrees Celsius in the past two to three days.

Statewide Temperature Extremes: According to IMD data, Pune reported the lowest temperature in Maharashtra on February 23, while Washim recorded the highest at 35.6 degrees Celsius. Other regions in the state observed temperatures ranging between 12 and 17 degrees Celsius.

IMD’s Weather Forecast: Anupam Kashyapi, head of the weather and forecasting division at IMD Pune, highlighted the influence of a new western disturbance on the western Himalayan region. This disturbance is expected to bring isolated, light rain between February 23 and 25. Additionally, thunder, lightning, and rain with gusty winds are anticipated at isolated places in Vidarbha and Marathwada on February 26 and 27.

Upcoming Weather Outlook for Pune: Jyoti Sonar, a senior meteorologist, mentioned that the minimum temperature in Pune will persist at normal to below-normal levels over the next 24 hours. Starting from February 25, the city is expected to witness partly cloudy skies during the afternoon and evening hours.
