Pune: Winter chill to set in Diwali; foggy, dry weather conditions likely from Saturday

Pune Weather

Pune: It is currently raining in some districts in Maharashtra. One is worried that it may dampen the festive spirit. However, the met office has forecasted that dry weather is likely to prevail after Saturday, along with cold and foggy weather conditions.

The low pressure area formed in the Arabian Sea may result in light to medium rainfall in Konkan and central Maharashtra till Friday. It rained in Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri on Wednesday due to the low pressure area. Rainfall was also witnessed in Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara, Solapur and some parts of Pune districts. However, LPA in the Arabian Sea is receding gradually. After Saturday, dry weather conditions would prevail in the State. This was revealed by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Rainfall till Friday

Dr Anupam Kashyapi, Head, Weather Forecast Division, IMD, said, “Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri districts in south Konkan may receive light to medium showers till Friday. There may be heavy showers at isolated places. Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara and Solapur districts will get light rains. There may be medium rainfall in some places in these districts. Pune and Ahmednagar districts may get sporadic rains.”

Foggy and cold weather

Following the petering out of the low pressure area after Saturday, completely dry weather will prevail in the State while temperatures may drop by a couple of degrees Celsius. This will result in cold weather conditions during Diwali, along with fog in the wee hours. Thus, there is no likelihood of rainfall during the festival of lights, said Dr Kashyapi.

He added that Pune may witness light to sporadic rains on Thursday. It would be cloudy in the evening. Clear sky after Friday afternoon will lead to a drop in the temperature in the city.
