Pune: Water Storage In Khadakwasla Cluster 7% Less Compared To Last Year

Pune Dams Water Storage

As the city awaits good rainfall for the last few days, the water storage in dams that supply water to Pune city and adjoining areas have also recorded low storage. This further raises concerns for the citizens as the Indian Meteorological Department has not predicted a heavy rainfall alert in Pune for the next few days.

According to the official data, the four dams in the Khadakwasla cluster now have 7% less water storage compared to last year, according to the irrigation department. The four dams in the Khadakwasla cluster are filled up to 93.65% (27.30 TMC) compared to 100% (29.15 TMC) recorded on the same day last year. This includes 56.82% storage (1.12 TMC) in Khadakwasla Dam, 100% (10.65 TMC) in Panshet Dam, 98.46% (12.62 TMC) in Warasgaon, and 78.39% (2.91 TMC) in Temghar Dam.

The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted ‘light to moderate rain’ for Pune for today while ‘light rain’ has been predicted for the next three days. Meanwhile, the irrigation department has reduced the water discharge from the Panshet dam from 2,554 Cusecs to 1,577 Cusecs from 11 am today.

With water storage in the Khadakwasla cluster dams showing a decline compared to the previous year, concerns about water availability in the coming months heighten. Adequate rainfall is crucial to replenish these water sources and ensure a stable water supply to Pune and its neighboring areas. As the city’s residents look toward the sky in hopes of substantial rainfall, water conservation efforts become even more essential to mitigate the impact of potential water shortages.
