Pune: Varandha Ghat in Bhor Closed for Three Months Due to Monsoon

Pune, July 3, 2023: The district collector of Raigad-Alibaug has issued an order to close Varandha Ghat on the Bhor-Mahad road for the movement of heavy vehicles during the monsoon season. This decision has been taken as a precautionary measure due to the potential risk of landslides. As a result, travelers using this route will have to take a longer route via Tamhini Ghat to reach their destinations.

According to officials, the closure of the Bhor-Mahad road for heavy vehicles will be in effect from July 1 to September 30. It is worth noting that this route was also closed during the monsoon season last year. Vehicle operators are required to comply with the directive, and the Mahad Police have been instructed to enforce the closure.

Varandha Ghat is known for experiencing frequent landslides during the monsoon season, posing a threat to the safety of vehicles and passengers. The closure of this route will particularly impact travelers who rely on it as the shortest route connecting Vidharbha with the Konkan region in the state. With the closure in effect for the next three months, heavy vehicle operators will have to take the alternative route via Tamhini Ghat in Pune, resulting in an increased distance for their journey.

The decision to close Varandha Ghat aims to ensure the safety of travelers and minimize the risk of accidents or disruptions caused by landslides. Travelers are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and take into account the longer travel time through Tamhini Ghat during the closure period. Authorities will closely monitor the situation and take necessary steps to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and the safety of all commuters.

It is essential for travelers to stay updated with the latest information and follow any instructions or guidelines provided by the authorities during this period. The closure of Varandha Ghat for heavy vehicles is a temporary measure taken in the interest of public safety, and efforts will be made to reopen the route as soon as it is deemed safe for travel.

In the meantime, travelers are encouraged to exercise caution, adhere to traffic regulations, and prioritize their safety while traveling through alternative routes. The cooperation of the public in following the closure order and using the designated alternate route will contribute to a safer and smoother travel experience during the monsoon season.
