Pune: An unauthorised mall on Shirole Plot on Fergusson College Road was demolished on Tuesday. It was being brought down by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) six months ago. However, the owner got a court stay on the action.
After the court lifted the stay on its demolition, the civic body’s Building Department razed the remaining structure of the mall.
A 12,000-sq ft, two-storey mall was built on Shirole Plot, in which 70 makeshift stalls were allotted. The PMC had issued a notice to its owner eight years ago for not seeking permission to build it. Later, the owner moved the court and brought a stay on the action. In December last year, the court lifted the stay, following which the PMC demolished around 7,000 sq ft of construction.
While the action was on, the owner again got a stay on the action from the Bombay High Court. Therefore, the demolition could not be completed. As the court lifted the stay on Tuesday, the PMC immediately brought down the remaining structure.
Customers and their vehicles visiting the mall were causing traffic issues on FC road. Since the stalls did not have enough space for light and air circulation, it was risky for customers in the event of an accident or fire.
The action was taken under the guidance of Superintending Engineer Rajesh Bankar, Executive Engineer Bipin Shinde by a squad comprising Deputy Engineer Sunil Kadam and Branch Engineer Rahul Rasale.
