PUNE: The Sound and Electrical and Generators Association, Pune has clarified that there are 5,000 Ganesh mandals and it has only 2,000 members and people from outside Pune used laser lights on a bigger scale. The members of the association said the range of the laser and DJ, who have taken permission, is only 150 foot.
A press conference was organised by the Sound and Electricals Generators Association, Pune to explain its stand against the background of noise pollution. At that time, the President of Sound and Electricals Generators Association, Pune Bablu Ramzani, Vice President Shailesh Gaikwad and other office-bearers were present.
They said that there are 400-500 members and some have formed another association. “We cannot adhere by the decibel rule because in industrial areas, there is noise above 75 decibel. We cannot reduce our decibel. How can we operate DJ at 55 decibel? During Ganeshotsav, some people operate them at high volume which can be disturbing. We are also against this. Presser beed is dangerous but many people use it. Unauthorised DJs use it. We have given notice to these people but they don’t listen to us. Laser lights are easily available and they have a capacity of 10 to 20 watt. We should use laser lights of only 5 watt and this should be regulated. Ninety per cent of them are Chinese made and they should be banned,” they said.
This year, during Ganeshotsav, there was excessive use of DJ and laser lights which had an adverse effect on civic employees and policemen. Puneites and the media took a tough stand against the non regulated and free use of laser lights and DJs. “However, unfortunately all DJ businessmen are being blamed for this, which is unfair. The reality is different. Businessmen who are doing their business sincerely and abiding by rules are also getting affected,” the members of the Sound and Electricals Generators Association said.
