Pune: Two Prominent Hospitals Receive Show Cause Notices for Violating MPJAY Scheme Terms

Pune, 31st July 2023: The state government of Maharashtra has taken stern action against two well-known hospitals in the city for their alleged violation of the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana (MPJAY) provisions. Officials at DY Patil Hospital and Bharti Hospital in Pune are accused of demanding money from patients and instructing them to procure medicines from external sources, despite being fully aware that the MPJAY scheme is cashless, and patients should not be charged for their treatment.

Upon receiving complaints from patients and their relatives, the government suspended the payment to these hospitals under the MPJAY scheme until the complaints are resolved. Additionally, the hospitals have been served show cause notices, and a thorough investigation into the matter will be carried out before further payments are considered.

The rules governing the MPJAY scheme strictly prohibit empanelled hospitals from asking for payments from patients or their families. Earlier this week, the state government increased the benefit coverage of the MPJAY scheme from Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 5 lakh, making it available to all ration card holders.

The government’s actions reflect its commitment to ensuring that vulnerable citizens can access quality healthcare without facing financial burden. Any violation of the MPJAY scheme terms will be dealt with firmly to protect the interests of patients and uphold the integrity of the healthcare system in the state.
