Pune: Two held for vehicle thefts, 15 two-wheelers worth Rs 8 lakh seized

Pune / Chakan: A special squad of the Chakan Police Station has arrested two persons for stealing two-wheelers in the Pimpri-Chinchwad area. As many as 15 two-wheelers amounting to Rs 8 lakh have been recovered from them while nine vehicle theft cases have been cracked.

The arrested accused have been identified as Tukaram Devkar (30) and Dattatraya Gangaram Gadebail (26), both residents of Shirur, Pune. There has been an increase in the number of vehicle thefts in the Chakan area. In this backdrop, the special squad of the Chakan Police has been formed to curb such thefts.

The squad searched for the accused by checking footage of over 100 CCTV cameras. It did a technical analysis and sought details of suspects from incident spots. They zeroed in on Devkar and Gadebail.

The accused have been apprehended and over 15 two-wheelers have been recovered from them. In all, seven vehicle theft cases registered at the Chakan Police station and one each at Dighi and Hinjawadi police stations have been solved. The police are trying to locate the remaining six owners of the vehicles. PI Prasanna Jarhad is investigating further.

The action was taken under the guidance of CP Vinay Kumar Choubey, Jt CP Sanjay Shinde, Addl CP Vasant Pardeshi, DCP Sandeep Doifode and ACP Rajendra Singh Gaur.

Senior PI Ashok Kadam, PI Yunus Mulani, API Prasanna Jarhad, API Vikram Gaikwad, police personnel Sandeep Sonwane, Raju Jadhav, Hanumant Kamble, Nikhil Shete, Nitin Gunjal, Sunil Bhagwat, Sandeep Gangwane, Ashok Divate, Mahesh Koli, Vivek Sanap, Prateek Chavan, Arun Shinde, Mahadev Bikkad and Madhuri Kachate took part in the action.
