Fursungi, 27th June 2023: A heart-wrenching incident occurred in the Bhosle Village society located in Fursungi, Pune, where an elderly woman and her son took their own lives by consuming poison. The incident follows a previous suicide attempt in May, where the husband, wife, and son had resorted to a similar act due to their ongoing battle with depression. Unfortunately, the husband did not survive the treatment process.
On Monday, June 26, the woman and child tragically ended their lives shortly after being discharged from the hospital. The victims have been identified as Janabai Suryaprakash Abnave, aged 60, and Chetan Suryaprakash Abnave, aged 41. Earlier on May 22, Janabai’s husband, Suryaprakash Harishchandra Abnave, aged 70 and a resident of Lakshmi Niwas in Fursungi, along with Janabai and Chetan, had made a desperate attempt on their lives by consuming poison. All three were admitted to Sassoon Hospital.
Despite efforts, Suryaprakash could not be saved, while Janabai and Chetan were discharged from the hospital after receiving necessary medical care. However, the tragic turn of events unfolded on Monday when Janabai and Chetan ingested poisonous substances, leading to their untimely demise before they could receive further treatment at the hospital.
Investigations suggest that Chetan, who had gone through a divorce and was currently unemployed, along with his parents, was grappling with difficult circumstances. The family’s distressing situation, compounded by health issues, is believed to have driven them to take such drastic measures, according to the police.
