Pune Traders Seek Police Action Against Extortion by Alleged Mathadi Workers

Pune, February 10, 2024 – The Pune City Traders Association has approached Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, seeking urgent intervention to curb extortion threats faced by traders allegedly orchestrated by individuals claiming to be Mathadi workers. In a meeting held on Thursday, Association president Suresh Jain expressed growing concerns over the mistreatment of traders and highlighted the need for swift and substantial police action.

The delegation, led by Suresh Jain, welcomed Commissioner Amitesh Kumar by presenting him with a badge of honor and a bouquet of flowers. During the meeting, Jain detailed the escalating challenges faced by the city’s business community, emphasizing the alarming trend of looting under the pretext of Mathadi workers’ involvement. Criminal elements have been resorting to threats against the lives of traders, prompting the Association to seek immediate police intervention to ensure the safety of its members.

Acknowledging the efforts of the police force in reducing overall crime, Jain stressed the importance of a more stringent approach in handling cases related to traders. Commissioner Amitesh Kumar assured the delegation that any criminal activities targeting traders would be treated with the utmost seriousness, and the police force is committed to putting an end to such extortion practices.

Prominent members of the Pune City Traders Association, including Nikhil Jain, Siddharth Jain, Deepak Jain, Vasant Jain, Dilip Balkawade, Mehul Oswal, Rakesh Jain, Vinayak Shinde, Suresh Chaudhary, Ashok Kumar Sarada, Nikhil Patil, Hasmukh Jain, Champalal Jain, among others, were present during the meeting.

The Association hopes that the Police Commissioner’s commitment will lead to a safer environment for traders and deter criminal activities targeting the business community. As the issue gains attention, the business community remains vigilant, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts between law enforcement and traders to maintain a secure business environment.
