In a significant move aimed at accelerating development with minimal land acquisition costs, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is set to commence work on three Town Planning (TP) schemes spanning over 600 hectares in Phursungi and Uruli Devachi. The launch event, scheduled for Saturday, will witness the presence of Deputy Chief Ministers Ajit Pawar and Devendra Fadnavis, along with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
PMC officials emphasize the historic nature of this occasion, marking the initiation of three TP programs by the municipal body after a gap of forty years. Urban planners commend the move, anticipating that these plans will expedite development without the need for significant land purchases.
PMC Commissioner Vikram Kumar highlights that the administration will kickstart the construction of roads and other essential facilities after completing necessary formalities, including arbitration and consultations with landowners.
The strategic promotion of these schemes across various regions, according to civic officials, comes with numerous advantages. The planned infrastructure includes roads, water supply lines, gardens, public hospitals, drainage systems, and sewage systems in these areas, with private TPs set to benefit.
According to PMC data, a total of approximately 608.95 hectares of land will undergo development as part of these schemes. This comprises two schemes of 260.67 hectares each in Phursungi, 238.50 hectares in Uruli Devachi, and 109.78 hectares in Uruli. The program is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at Sangamwadi.
Pune has a rich history of TP development, with initiatives dating back to 1915 during the British era. Notable TP schemes were implemented between 1939 and 1989, covering areas such as Deccan, Hadapsar Industrial Estate, Gultekdi, Parvati, Sangamwadi, and Mangalwar Peth.
