Pune ST Stands in Disarray: Passengers Demand Urgent Maintenance and Upkeep

Pune News: Passengers utilizing State Transport (ST) stands in Pune, particularly at Swargate, Wakdewadi, and Pune Railway Station, have voiced their dissatisfaction over the dismal conditions of these crucial transportation hubs. While the recent inauguration of the new ST stand at Baramati showcased modern amenities, existing facilities in Pune continue to suffer from neglect, prompting concerns among daily commuters.

The ST stand at Swargate, considered the main and largest in the Pune MSRTC division, caters to over 10,000 passengers daily, serving routes towards the Bangalore highway, Solapur highway, and Mumbai. Despite its significance, the main building lacks adequate benches, and cleanliness is compromised, with broken footpaths and benches scattered throughout the premises. Passengers have raised issues of private vehicles entering, causing congestion and hampering bus movement.

Similarly, the Wakdewadi ST stand, a major hub for buses on routes to Ahmednagar, Mumbai-Pune, and others, faces numerous problems such as potholes, leaking roofs, broken footpaths, and the presence of stray dogs. With around 5,000 daily passengers, the stand’s poor conditions have sparked concerns about safety and hygiene, especially for families and children.

Passenger Sagar Chintal expressed his embarrassment, stating, “To add to this, stray dogs are roaming around. The MSRTC administration should think of the passengers’ safety first.”

In response to the grievances, Kailash Patil, MSRTC Pune divisional controller, assured that maintenance and repair work are ongoing at all stands across the division. He further stated, “Still, we will run a check, and maintenance works will be carried out at the Swargate and Wakdewadi ST stands.”

As passengers continue to raise concerns about the neglected state of these crucial transportation hubs, there is hope that the authorities will address the issues promptly to enhance the overall commuting experience.
