Pune: Six huts destroyed by fire in Katraj; Gas cylinder explodes

PUNE: An incident of fire breaking out in slums in Gokul Nagar area on the Katraj-Kondhwa Road took place on Wednesday. Six huts were destroyed. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident. The jawans of fire brigade put out the fire by spraying water.

The fire brigade was informed that huts located near the water tank in Kedareshwar area on Katraj-Kondhwa Road. Four fire tenders and tankers rushed to the spot. Jawans started making efforts to douse the fire. A gas cylinder kept in one of the huts exploded. The jawans immediately removed six cylinders from the huts which prevented a major tragedy.

The fire was brought under control in half an hour by spraying water. Six huts were gutted. The jawans confirmed whether there was anyone in the slums. Since the residents had come out, a tragedy was averted. The reason for the fire is unknown. Fire Brigade Officer Sameer Shaikh, Sachin Mandavkar and Sunil Naiknavre guided a team of 25 jawans in dousing the fire.
