Pune Schools Face Action for Lack of Separate Toilets, Confirms Minister Uday Samant

Pune, August 4, 2023: In a recent announcement, Maharashtra Minister Uday Samant has stated that stringent measures will be taken against schools falling under the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) jurisdiction that have failed to provide separate toilet facilities for boys and girls. This move comes as part of the government’s commitment to ensuring safe and inclusive educational environments for all students. Minister Samant addressed questions posed by Madhuri Misal, the BJP MLA from Pune’s Parvati assembly constituency, during an ongoing session of the state assembly.

Minister Samant further elaborated that a thorough inspection campaign will be initiated within the Pune Municipal Schools to address a range of issues. The government aims to prevent any disruptions in students’ academic years due to unresolved concerns.

Currently, there are a total of 272 primary schools under the purview of Pune Municipal Corporation’s primary education department, catering to Marathi, English, Urdu, and Kannada mediums. Among these, 185 are Marathi medium, 33 are Urdu medium, 52 are English medium, and two are Kannada medium schools. Presently, there are 2,425 approved teaching positions across these institutions, with 352 positions remaining vacant. The recruitment process to fill these vacancies is underway through the School Education Department, with expectations of completion within the next two to three months, according to Minister Samant.

The government’s proactive stance in ensuring proper infrastructure and facilities within schools highlights its dedication to nurturing a conducive learning environment for all students in Pune.
