Pune: Sassoon Hospital staffer walks into ACB trap

Pune: A Sassoon Hospital employee was arrested while accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000 for getting a medical bill sanctioned. The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) laid a trap and nabbed him on Wednesday at the main gate of the hospital.

The bribe-taking employee has been identified as Jalindar Chandrakant Kumbhar (55), working as the lift attendant at the Deputy Superintendent’s office in the Sassoon Hospital. A 57-year-old person lodged a complaint with the ACB, Pune.

The complainant had applied to get sanctioned a medical bill amounting to Rs 1.43 lakh at the Sassoon Hospital on June 1, 2023. The accused had sought a two-per cent commission to get the bill sanctioned. Thus, he demanded a Rs 3,000 bribe. The complainant lodged the complaint at the ACB Pune office on November 29.

An ACB squad verified that Kumbhar had demanded a Rs 3,000 bribe in front of a witness. Then it laid a trap at the main gate of the hospital on Wednesday. He was nabbed red-handed while accepting the bribe money from the complainant. A case has been registered against Kumbhar under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Bund Garden Police Station.
