Pune Rural Police’s New SP Unveils Strategy to Combat Extortion and Enhance Safety

Pune, 3rd February 2024: Superintendent of Police Pankaj Deshmukh, recently appointed to oversee Pune Rural Police, issued a robust warning against extortion and hooliganism prevalent in the industrial areas under his jurisdiction. In his inaugural interaction with the media, Deshmukh highlighted the utilization of the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities (MPDA) Act as a formidable tool to address such cases.

Having previously served with the Pune City Police traffic branch and CID Pune, Deshmukh brings a wealth of experience to his new role. Addressing the media, he acknowledged the challenges posed by increased urbanization, emphasizing the need to prioritize solutions for both traffic issues and the maintenance of law and order.

Expressing concern over the harassment faced by business establishments, particularly from Mathadi organizations, in Pune district’s industrial areas, Deshmukh assured strict action against extortionists. He urged entrepreneurs to file complaints for prompt intervention. Notable areas such as Ahmednagar Road, Solapur Road, and the Ranjangaon industrial zones will receive targeted measures to alleviate traffic concerns.

Deshmukh also stressed the imperative for infrastructure improvements at popular tourist destinations like Lonavala and religious sites such as Bhimashankar, aiming to address the challenges posed by the rising footfall.

Addressing the impact of offensive content on social media, Deshmukh highlighted the increasing incidents of disputes between groups. He emphasized the importance of monitoring social media platforms to maintain law and order, assuring stringent action against individuals posting offensive messages.
