Pune RTO Cracks Down on Overcharging: Your Guide to Fair Fares this Festive Season

As the festive season approaches, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) Pune has issued an appeal to the public to report instances of private transport vehicles overcharging passengers. The RTO emphasizes the importance of adhering to fare regulations and warns of consequences for violations.

According to RTO officials, private transport vehicles are permitted to charge fares up to 50% higher than those set by the Maharashtra Road State Transport Corporation (MSRTC). Any vehicle found exceeding this fare limit may face penalties in accordance with regulations. Complaints of overcharging become more common during the festive season as travel agencies raise prices in response to increased demand.

To report instances of overcharging or other travel-related issues, citizens can contact the RTO at 020-26057070 or 020-2658090 during official working hours. Alternatively, complaints can be emailed to [email protected]. The RTO also urges travel agencies to maintain their vehicles, ensure clear documentation, and schedule vehicle inspections to prevent any unfortunate incidents.
