Pune: Retired very senior police official cheated of ₹1.55 crore

PUNE: An incident has come to light wherein a retired very senior police official was told to invest in a footwear company and was not given any returns thus violating the contract and was cheated of ₹1.55 crore.
A 75-year-old retired and very senior police official staying in Model Colony has lodged a complaint (641/23) at the Chatuhshrungi police station.

Accordingly, an FIR has been registered against Rajesh Vasantrao Karande (57), Nilesh Vasantrao Karande and three women, all residents of Model Colony. The incident has happened since 2017.

According to the police, the complainant was told by the accused to invest in Kas Footwear Pvt. Ltd. Company. The accused entered into a partnership with the complainant’s son and the complainant invested ₹1.55 crore.

A power of attorney was made on the investment. Share certificates were issued to the complainant and an agreement had been made. Despite this, Rajesh Karande and others transferred the shares of the complainant. The cheques issued to him as returns, bounced. After he realised that he had been cheated, the complainant had lodged a complaint with the police. Later, on the orders issued by DCP Shashikant Borate, an FIR has been registered. PI Jankar is probing the case.
