Pune Residents Advocate for Bay-Marking to Tackle Road Chaos in Merged Areas

Residents of areas recently merged into the Pune Municipal Corporation are pressing local authorities for the implementation of bay-marking strategies to alleviate road congestion and curb illegal parking.

As traffic volume surges in these combined areas, residents find themselves grappling with chaotic road conditions exacerbated by haphazardly parked vehicles. The absence of clearly delineated parking bays contributes to traffic snarls and safety hazards, particularly in localities like Narhe, Ambegaon, and Dhayari.

Activists point to poor management and insufficient parking infrastructure as root causes of traffic gridlock, which not only disrupts daily commutes but also impacts school bus schedules and overall road safety. The influx of heavy vehicles, including dumpers and construction trucks, further compounds the problem.

Recent measures, such as parking prohibitions along sections of the Pune-Ahmednagar highway near Wagholi, have had limited success in addressing the underlying issues. Residents express frustration at the lack of tangible improvements, calling for comprehensive parking regulations akin to those enforced in older city areas.

Pune Municipal Corporation officials acknowledge ongoing road development projects in merged localities, including the introduction of concrete roads. Collaborating with traffic police, authorities plan to propose tailored parking solutions to mitigate congestion and ensure smoother traffic flow in these burgeoning areas.
