Pune Railway Station’s Failure to Comply with Election Code Sparks Controversy

The Pune railway station is under scrutiny for its failure to remove promotional banners featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi, despite the activation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by the Election Commission of India. The MCC, which came into effect after the announcement of Lok Sabha election dates on March 16, mandates the removal of such banners within 48 hours of its enforcement.

Despite assurances from station officials regarding the removal of some posters and selfie points bearing Modi’s photos, numerous promotional materials endorsing Union government schemes remained on display.

This incident highlights the station’s non-compliance with MCC regulations, raising concerns about political impartiality in public spaces, especially during crucial electoral processes.

As the nation braces for the upcoming elections, such lapses underscore the imperative of strict adherence to electoral guidelines to uphold the principles of a fair and transparent democratic process.
