Pune Railway Division’s Vigilant Ticket Checks Yield Rs 1.56 Crore in Fines for December 2023

In a proactive move to maintain the integrity of railway services, the Pune Railway Division reported a substantial revenue of Rs. 1.56 crore in fines for December 2023. The fines primarily targeted unauthorized travelers, irregular travel, and passengers carrying unbooked luggage.

Ticketless Travelers Face Strict Penalties:

During the ticket checks conducted on Pune Railway Division, a staggering 16,022 passengers were caught traveling without tickets, resulting in a fine collection of Rs. 1.18 crore. This robust enforcement highlights the division’s commitment to ensuring that travelers adhere to the prescribed ticketing regulations.

Irregular Travel and Unbooked Luggage:

An additional 6,308 passengers faced fines totaling Rs. 37.35 lakhs for irregular travel and not possessing proper tickets. Furthermore, a fine of Rs. 25,075/- was collected from 199 passengers found carrying unbooked luggage. These fines underscore the railway administration’s dedication to maintaining order and safety within the railway system.

Collaborative Enforcement Efforts:

The enforcement actions were executed under the guidance of Divisional Railway Manager, Smt. Indu Dubey, in collaboration with Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Dr. Milind Hirve. The seamless coordination between ticket checking inspectors and the Railway Protection Force contributed to the success of the initiative.

Passenger Advisory and Legal Consequences:

Regular ticket checking initiatives are an integral part of the railway administration’s strategy to ensure compliance. Passengers are strongly advised to travel only with valid tickets to avoid fines imposed under the Railway Act. It is emphasized that failure to pay these fines may lead to legal consequences, including the possibility of imprisonment.
