Pune Railway Division Introduces Special Trains to Accommodate Passenger Demand

Enhanced Services Offer Relief During Peak Seasons and Festive Periods

In response to growing passenger demand and to alleviate overcrowding during peak seasons and festivals, the Pune railway administration has initiated the operation of numerous special trains, offering enhanced travel options for commuters.

Officials revealed that in the fiscal year 2023-24, a total of 1,961 special trains were launched from Pune, representing a significant increase from the 658 special trains operated in the preceding year 2022-23.

These additional services, typically introduced during festive occasions such as Diwali, Christmas, and Holi, aim to provide greater comfort and convenience to passengers, particularly during periods of heightened travel activity.

Milind Hirve, senior divisional commercial manager of Pune railway division, highlighted the importance of these special trains in catering to the needs of passengers who struggle to secure reserved tickets during peak periods.

“Railways have provided special trains to accommodate passengers who face challenges in securing reserved tickets during peak seasons. If there is a positive response from passengers, we are prepared to further expand the number of special trains,” stated Hirve.

To meet the increased demand during summer vacations, the railway administration has introduced additional special trains. Notably, services have been augmented on routes such as Pune to Danapur, Nagpur, and Hazrat Nizamuddin (Delhi).

For instance, the Pune-Danapur Superfast Express will operate eight trips departing from Pune on April 11, 14, and May 2, 5, with return trips scheduled from Danapur on April 12, 15, and May 3, 6.

Similarly, the Pune-Nagpur Superfast Express will run twice a week departing from Pune every Tuesday and Sunday from April 14 to June 16, while the return journey from Nagpur will occur every Monday and Saturday from April 13 to June 15.

These additional train services are expected to provide commuters with more flexibility in their travel plans, ensuring smoother journeys during peak travel periods.
