Pune: Pune Police Nab Notorious Chain Snatchers Arman Nanawat and Omkar Gaikwad Under MCOCA

Pune: To tackle soaring organised crime in the city, Pune Police Commissioner Ritesh Kumar has intensified efforts against criminal activities, resulting in the booking of gang leader Arman Prahlad Nanawat and his accomplice Omkar Ramkisan Gaikwad under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime (MCOCA) Act. The Commissioner, who assumed office on December 16, 2022, has taken stringent action against a total of 116 organised criminal gangs during his 13-month tenure.

The recent incident involved the snatching of gold chains from women in the Chandannagar area, leading to the registration of a case under IPC 392, 34 against the accused at the local police station. Following a thorough investigation, the police arrested Arman Prahlad Nanawat and Omkar Ramkisan Gaikwad, both allegedly involved in a series of crimes over the past decade. The accused duo has been involved in many serious crimes within the city limits in the last few years.

The accused gang, known for brutal acts of violence, prompted the police to propose the inclusion of Sections 3(1)(ii), 3(2), and 3(4) of the MCOCA in the case. The Additional Commissioner of Police, Eastern Regional Division, Ranjan Kumar Sharma, approved the proposal, allowing for further investigation by Assistant Commissioner of Police Sanjay Patil. Accordingly, both accused were held by the police under the MCOCA Act.

Commissioner Ritesh Kumar has targeted various criminal activities in the city, including hooliganism, traffic issues, and cybercrimes in Pune. Notably, this marks the first time in the history of the Pune Police Commissionerate that such effective and rapid action has been taken against organised crime within a given short period of time.

The crackdown was carried out under the guidance of Commissioner Ritesh Kumar, with the support of key officials, including Joint Commissioner of Police (Additional Charge) Ramnath Pokale, Additional Commissioner of Police East Regional Division Ranjan Kumar Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Police Circle 4 Vijay Kumar Magar, and Assistant Commissioner of Police Sanjay Patil. The dedicated team from Chandannagar Police Station, led by Senior Police Inspector Manisha Patil, played a crucial role in apprehending these criminals.
