Pune Property Owners on the Brink: 186 Face Property Seizure Over Unpaid Taxes

Pune : In a startling revelation, 186 property owners in Pune have failed to pay their property taxes to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) despite lacking a stay order from the government. The PMC’s scrutiny of pending property tax cases has brought to light this non-compliance, triggering action against these defaulting property owners.

The PMC has initiated the process of identifying and seizing these properties, invoking the authority of the law due to the extensive history of unpaid property taxes. Already, several properties, collectively accounting for a substantial sum of Rs 4 Crore, have been seized by municipal authorities. Further actions are now in the pipeline to address the remaining delinquent properties.

The recent review of pending cases in court has uncovered an alarming situation, with many of these cases having languished unresolved for over two decades. The administration was previously unaware of the current status of these disputed matters, prompting this proactive approach by the municipal corporation.

According to official records, there are a staggering 336 cases filed by citizens in court, and the cumulative outstanding property tax from these properties has ballooned to a staggering Rs 1,600 Crore. Municipal officials are urging property owners to fulfill their obligations by paying their overdue property taxes promptly to avoid the grim prospect of property seizure by the PMC.
