Pune Police Crack Down on Illegal Bangladeshi Nationals in Budhwar Peth

In a significant operation against illegal immigrants, the Social Security Cell of Pune City Police apprehended seven Bangladeshi nationals in the Budhwar Peth area. The group, consisting of five women and two men, was taken into custody during the early hours of Tuesday.

According to police reports, these individuals had entered India illegally by crossing the international border. The women among them were reportedly coerced into the sex trade in the Budhwar Peth area, while the men were providing assistance within the same locality. None of the accused possessed valid documents allowing them to stay in India legally.

The police have forwarded the case to the local police station, where charges will be filed against the individuals under the relevant sections of The Foreigners Act. Additionally, a woman from Nepal, who was allegedly running the prostitution racket and had forced the Bangladeshi women into prostitution, has also been arrested in connection with the case.

In a separate incident, authorities detained a minor girl from Bangladesh, and a separate case is being prepared in her regard.

This operation follows a similar crackdown earlier this month when the Social Security Cell officials arrested 19 Bangladeshi nationals in the same area for illegal immigration. The women detained in that case had reportedly been forced into the sex trade, while the men were working as hawkers, selling various items in the city to sustain themselves.
