Pune Police Commissioner’s WhatsApp Helpline Flooded with Irrelevant Messages

Pune, 17th July 2023: Pune City Police Commissioner, Reetesh Kumaarr, recently launched a WhatsApp Helpline number aimed at providing quick assistance to citizens in case of emergencies. The helpline is monitored directly by the commissioner, along with officials in the police control room, who promptly respond to incoming messages.

However, it has come to light that a significant number of messages received on this WhatsApp Helpline have been irrelevant. Reports indicate that out of a total of 476 messages received between 9th and 12th July, around 210 messages were mere greetings, such as ‘hi,’ ‘hello,’ or messages congratulating the police for introducing the helpline number.

The WhatsApp Helpline was established with the primary objective of combating crime in the city, particularly crimes related to women and children. The commissioner invited citizens to submit complaints and provide feedback through this helpline, assuring prompt action on the received information.

While the intent behind the helpline is commendable, it is disheartening to note that a substantial portion of the messages received have not served the purpose for which the helpline was created. The flood of irrelevant messages can hinder the effectiveness of the helpline and delay the response to genuine emergencies.
